Dr. Thelma Reese is a member of the Oprah Winfrey Network Belief Team; the co-author, with Dr. Barbara Fleisher, of The New Senior Woman: Reinventing the Years Beyond Mid-Life and hosts the blog ElderChicks.com. She is a retired professor of English and was the Director of the Mayor’s Commission on Literacy for the city of Philadelphia, consultant for publishing and toy companies, headed the Advisory Board for Hooked on Phonics, and organized UNESCO’s World Conference on Family Literacy. She is a wife, mother, and grandmother.

She trains students in peer mediation, and teachers, parents and community leaders in nonviolent principles and community circles. She leads interfaith and intercultural efforts to promote peace and nonviolence in the world.
