There’s disheartenment in the heartland.
And while many blame that loss of heart due to heartlessness on the Trump presidency, more and more Americans are awakening to realize his “election” is more of a symptom than a cause. As Swami has said, “Donald Trump is America’s balloon karma payment.”
American history – not unlike the history of humankind in general – has moved forward on two parallel and seemingly opposite tracks. One track, based on the Declaration of Independence, has sought to expand freedom, justice, equality and the common good. The other track has been the reactionary forces pursuing the obsolete and obsolethal meme, dominate-or-be-dominated.
So those who dismiss our Founding Fathers as white elitists, many of them slaveholders, who allowed the genocide of Native People are right. And … those who recognize the founding principles, many of them based on the wisdom of the Iroquois Nation and other Native peoples, they are right too. And unless we reconcile these two “rights” it will be “last rites” for American democracy.
Our guest on Wiki Politiki this week, Glenn Aparicio Parry, has a new book that highlights the Native wisdom at the foundation of the American system, and offers way to use that wisdom to restore – or maybe even establish for the first time – a sane and sacred center at the heart of our Republic.
Glenn Aparicio Parry, PhD, is a writer, educational consultant, international speaker, and entrepreneur with a vision to reform thinking and education into a coherent, cohesive whole. From 1999-2011, he organized and participated in the groundbreaking Language of Spirit Conferences, bringing together Native and Western scientists in dialogue. The founder and past president of the SEED Institute, he currently runs a think tank and regularly moderates dialogues. In addition to his current book, “Original Politics: Making America Sacred Again”, he is the author of the Nautilus award-winning Original Thinking: A Radical Revisioning of Time, Humanity and Nature. He lives in northern New Mexico.

The world as we know it is brought to a screeching halt by a deadly novel coronavirus, and the entire world – doctors and scientists, world leaders, and ordinary people – work as one to share the best information as rapidly as possible so we can face this challenge as one united, purposeful species…
Well, not quite.
For a brief moment, there was the recognition that for the first time, all of humanity faced one common challenge, and that we had the worldwide communication network to find the best practices and adopt them as quickly as possible. But then “reality” set in – the reality of economic and political interests pushing their agendas and seeking to discredit and de-platform other points of view. On one hand, we have a President who has lied so consistently, that even when he makes a truthful statement he has no credibility. On the other, we have a medical industrial complex claiming to represent “science”, when in actuality it represents only the science that supports its financial interests.
Add to this a polarized population, skeptical of anything the “other side” had to say, and the stage is set for disaster: A nation shut down and economically paralyzed, without the benefit of defeating the virus to show for it.
Truly a – new word – shituation.
This week on Wiki Politiki, we interview Dr. Meryl Nass, internist and biological warfare epidemiologist to help us get past the political narratives to find a likelier story of how COVID-19 took hold, where we are today, and treatments likely to make a difference.
Meryl Nass, MD, ABIM, is an internist with special interests in vaccine-induced illnesses, chronic fatigue syndrome, Gulf War illness, fibromyalgia, and toxicology. As a biological warfare epidemiologist, she investigated world’s largest anthrax epizootic, in Zimbabwe, and developed a model for analyzing epidemics to assess whether they are natural or man-made. She is also an expert on Gulf War Syndrome and its relationship to the anthrax vaccine given to troops. She has played a major role in creation of a coalition that has fought the Anthrax Vaccine Immunization Program, and is active in assisting legal teams defending anthrax vaccine refusers and ill service members in the U.S. and Canada.

A benefit of the current COVID-19 crisis – if there is one – is that it offers human society a chance to stop, to pause, and if we are wise, to hit “reset.” Reset suggests a stop in linear action, and then using the pause to access the wisdom that “busyness as usual” keeps us from seeing. It means seeing anew, and allowing ourselves to imagine how things would look and feel if they REALLY worked, and if they reflected our connection to the web of life and the web of love.
It’s fitting that we begin our Reset conversation with water – truly life’s most precious “liquid asset.” The Native Peoples say, “Water is life” because indeed everything we are, everything we have, everything we do requires water. Not only are we physically 70% water, but water is required for all human endeavor.
This week we are pleased to welcome two diverse “hydro-luminaries” – that is our new word for “enlightened visionary water experts” – to help us imagine together how our human species can work together to insure this precious WE-source is used wisely so that every human on the planet has access to clean, adequate water.
Our first hydro-luminary, Jim Lauria, is a leader in the water treatment field with a proven track record of revenue growth, profit improvement and new business development. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College, he has traveled the world benchmarking the best global water management practices. While living in Hong Kong, Jim did a trains, planes and automobiles tour of China visiting breweries, oil refineries and water treatment plants to direct a $45 million investment in Chinese mining operations. In 2004 he provided peer review for the World Health Organization’s publication on drinking water treatment. As a writer, Jim has published feature and cover articles for most of the leading water industry publications in the U.S. and many top international magazines. His blog posts about global water management practices have received accolades from all levels of industry and government.
Adam Tank has over 10 years of experience in the water industry with a focus on innovation, software, and business development. As the Director of Software Solutions at Transcend he’s responsible for client success related to Transcend Design Generator and the automation of preliminary engineering activities. Most recently he served as the North America Smart Cities Director at Suez. He previously led, and sold, a robotics spin-out of the General Electric corporation which focused on cutting edge potable water pipe rehabilitation techniques. Prior to that he served as GE Water’s Digital Water Leader, managing venture investments and creating software solutions for water distribution challenges. Earlier in his career Adam served as an engineer in the CPG industry where he both lived and worked in Brazil, and led sanitation programs for General Mills’ largest yogurt plant in North America. Adam received his undergraduate degree from Kansas State University and his M.B.A. from the University of Arizona.

About a month ago, I heard some really good news … and then I got angry.
A chiropractor friend told me that a colleague of his had successfully treated more than 30 COVID-19 cases – including an 80-something man who had been sent home to die – using alternative means. However, his colleague could tell no one what he had done, lest he lose his license. Meanwhile, treatments as innocuous as intravenous Vitamin C therapy have been removed from Facebook by orders of the World Health Organization. As we hear of the COVID-19 casualties likely caused by the lame and incoherent response of our narcissist-in-chief, I’m left to wonder about something else. How many COVID patients would be alive today – or would have had much milder cases – had they had access to the full panoply of healing modalities, including prevention?
Of course, the public needs to be protected against false or misleading information … but what if the “protectors” have another agenda? Those of us who believe in science are told to follow the guidelines of medical authorities, but consider this quote by the former editor of the New England Journal of Medicine, Marcia Angell: “It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of The New England Journal of Medicine.”

Something that seems to be true about we humans is, we are a lot more clear – and vocal – about what we DON’T want than what we DO want. Add to this the programming that we are “sinners” and that creating a world that works is “utopian”, and we can see how we’ve arrived at the brink of a dark, dystopian reality.
But as the Swami says, we have a choice. If we don’t want dystopia, we have to choose “dat-topia” – an alternative where we use our intelligence intelligently and our resources more resourcefully.
The question of the day – if not the century – is, how do we turn the ideal into the “real deal”? How do we cohere a sacred center around the virtues and values our spiritual teachers have extolled for millennia – and that science is now confirming as the optimal operating system for evolutionary thrival?

The current COVID-19 crisis has made our health care system front-burner news. On one hand, there are stories of dedicated and skilled professionals who have put their own wellbeing on the line as the front line in fighting the COVID infection. On the other hand, we have physicians who, alarmed at the ineffectiveness of the protocol, have spoken out and have been shut down. Not only that, but helpful non-drug remedies have been de-platformed by social media at the behest of the World Health Organization, and any information not consistent with the official CDC COVID-19 story has been blatantly censored.
And that is just the tip of the iceberg. As a country, we pay more per capita for medical care than any other nation in the world, and all that money buys us health care that ranks 27th in the world, down from sixth 30 years ago. What’s wrong with this picture? Perhaps it’s a medical system that is about money, money über alles, and where primary care physicians are little more than plantation slaves, paralyzed by university debt. Instead of noble independent practitioners, they have largely become employees of managed care conglomerates – where executives make millions in salary.
Our guest this week, Erik Goldman, has been serving health care professionals who want to practice more holistically for 20 years. He is the founding editor of Holistic Primary Care-News for Health & Healing, a medical publication serving ~60,000 professionals with news and education about non-pharma alternatives for preventing & treating common chronic conditions. As more of us have come to recognize, fear – and the fight or flight response – puts us in our hindbrain, where we are hard-wired for survival. This is essential for the short term, but what about the bigger picture?
Transformative ideas and evolutionary solutions, and out-of-the-box creativity come from our forebrain. In times of crisis and upheaval, the urgency of the shituation gets our attention. And … it’s the creative part of ourselves that must give us the INTENTION.
Our guest this week, Shariff Abdullah, has cultivated the ability to hold two ideas simultaneously – the ideal and the real deal – and use the dynamic tension between the two to help us get from the urgent crisis to the emergent opportunity. He uses the same analogy Bruce Lipton and I use in “Spontaneous Evolution” – the metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly – to characterize our current predicament.
More intriguing – maybe trying to get from “here to there” keeps us crawling like a caterpillar along the same linear pathways that got us where we are. Instead says Shariff, we need to work backward from “butterfly” so that we figure out how to get from THERE to HERE.

While we’re sheltering in place, one of our natural pastimes has been cruising the Internet for information we are unlikely to get from mainstream corporate media, particularly as it is beholden to certain industries and their narratives. However, even though mainstream media gets an issue wrong doesn’t mean those outside the media matrix get it right.
Our guest this week Mark Robinowitz has a distinct talent for distinguishing “conspiracy theories” from “con’s piracy facts”, and helping us all become more discerning about what we hear and see. Today’s conversation focuses on three movies – including one that isn’t out yet: “Contagion”, the prescient theatrical film from 2011; Michael Moore’s current controversial movie, “Planet of the Humans”; and a forthcoming documentary from Oliver Stone, “JFK: Destiny Betrayed.” Mark will use these three films to offer insight on our current “shituation.”
Mark is a writer and researcher, who focuses on the intersection of deep politics and deep ecology. He runs several websites, including OilEmpire.US – A Political Map, PeakChoice.org – Cooperation or Collapse, and JFKMoon.org about President Kennedy’s call to end the Cold War and convert the Moon race to a joint US – Soviet mission. Mark is based in Eugene, Oregon where he practices permaculture and encourages re-localization as a community response to Peak Everything.
I have long appreciated Mark’s ability to cut through BS, speak truth about the “unspeakable”, and help others be more discerning. Beginning with the John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King assassinations, Mark brings deep insight and common sense understandings to these cover-ups, and the continues to unwrap and unravel the likeliest story around the 911 attacks. He also calls out and explains some of the more outrageous “conspiracy stories” and the purpose they serve to obfuscate the truth about “real” conspiracies.
As a researcher in the issues of peak oil, and peak everything else, Mark points toward the real issues we face as individuals, as a nation, and as a species. And … he addresses the all-too-real threat of the deep state from the “deeper state” of love, wisdom and spiritual awareness.

There is a telling quote I ran across, purportedly by Ronald Reagan’s CIA director William Casey: “We will know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false.”
So if you’re confused about what is true in the age of COVID-19 … relax. It’s part of the plan. At a time when we have a pathologically blatant liar in the White House, a corporate media that cannot be trusted, and Google, You Tube, Facebook, and Twitter de-platforming dissenting opinions at the behest of the powers that be in power, who or what are we to believe? How do we practice discernment?
Our guest this week, Mark Crispin Miller, is a voice in the bewilderness, whose views bridge and transcend the established left and right narratives, as he takes on issues such as fixed elections, the controversy over vaccines, and media censorship.
Mark Crispin Miller earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University in 1971, and his doctorate in English from Johns Hopkins University in 1977. He is currently a Professor of Media, Culture and Communication at New York University. He is the author of several books, including, “The Bush Dyslexicon: Observations on a National Disorder”, “Cruel and Unusual: Bush/Cheney’s New World Order” and “Fooled Again: The Real Case for Electoral Reform” (2007).
Miller is the editor of Forbidden Bookshelf, an e-book series that revives important works now out of print, most of which were variously killed at birth. He also wrote the introduction to the 2004 edition of Edward Bernays’ book Propaganda. He is also editor of News From the Underground.

As our attention is drawn “out there” to the latest news or latest speculation or latest commentary about COVID-19, information given ostensibly to safeguard our health is making people more stressed, and consequently less healthy. The question is not so much how do we tune that information out, but how do we attune ourselves in to the resources that will help us process this information in a helpful, healthy way?
Long-time meditation teacher, practitioner and author Philip Goldberg has a new book out that couldn’t be more timely – Spiritual Practice for Crazy Times. And anyone who doesn’t think these are crazy times must be nuts.
Philip Goldberg has been studying the world’s spiritual traditions for more than 50 years, as a practitioner, teacher, and writer. He is the author or co-author of more than 20 books, including The Intuitive Edge; Get Out of Your Own Way; and Roadsigns on the Spiritual Path: Living at the Heart of Paradox. His 2010 book American Veda: From Emerson and the Beatles to Yoga and Meditation, How Indian Spirituality Changed the West chronicles the remarkable influence of India’s traditional spiritual teachings on the West and was named one of the top 10 religion books of the year by both Huffington Post and the American Library Association’s Booklist. His most recent book, published by Hay House, was The Life of Yogananda: The Story of the Yogi Who Became the First Modern Guru. He also appears onscreen in the award-winning documentary Awake: The Life of Yogananda. A screenwriter and published novelist (This Is Next Year), Phil is an ordained interfaith minister, spiritual counselor, and meditation teacher trained in 1970 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
Now I have to be honest. Phil and I go back a long, long ways – since before I knew him. We both attended John Marshall Junior High School in Brooklyn at the same time, even though I didn’t know him then, and we grew up in the same spiritual tradition – as Brooklyn Dodger fans.
I’ve had a chance to go through Phil’s prescriptions for creating a “sane asylum” during these crazy times, and they are filled with humor, down-to-earth pragmatic wisdom, and uncommonly commonsensical practices.
