This week we’re talking about Belonging – Exploring Roots, Race, & Religion

Something is changing in our world – right now – and it has to do with how we identify ourselves as individuals. It’s as if at every dinner table, conversation is taking place about where we fit within our community, if it’s acceptable, inclusive and supportive, and how this interrelates with others, of other groups.

Separation, alignment, connectivity, sameness, equality, marginalization, and belonging are human concepts beckoning us to focus and reconsider our involvement, experience, and the belief systems that lie at the center of our actions.

This week on Expedition Self, we’re going to explore this topic of belonging with the desire to acknowledge and appreciate thoughts that might be considered unmentionable or out of bounds. It’s time to examine this very human need for belonging through a growth-oriented lens, to validate the importance of our sameness, and to question the impact of our alignment on others outside of those we feel ‘one’ with.

Sam will bring her curiosity and desire to honor all human experiences as we talk about the delicate and natural ‘separations’ that live inside of all of us and how we counter these through family, community, and ethnicity.

We will also ponder how we narrate our attachment to being who we are, to being someone who is a someone, and cultivating a sense of security that allows us to confidently move through life.

This week on It’s Your Ego—Stupid!, Dr. Nick will be looking intensely at people who are living in the role of the Underachiever. The Underachiever achieves less than they are capable of achieving, often significantly underutilizing the talents they possess. This is rooted in the absence of belief in themselves. They have learned to expect failure and can readily find it in whatever they are doing. They often avoid success and are good at overlooking or dismissing their successes and achievement, often turning victory into defeat. This allows them to avoid the responsibility that comes with success and achievement—as this responsibility would remove them from their “comfort zone” of helplessness and ineptitude.

During this show, I’ll be drawing upon my book The Two Voices Within to look at the impact of lower ego power on the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of those living in the role of the Underachiever. I’ll be looking at the “voice” of ego and the messages the Underachiever is experiencing and working with due to the mixture of their lower ego power energy and their mind. Many of them, the Underachiever is unaware of, but still exerting a powerful impact on their life and unfortunately others. I’ll also be looking at what their ego energy is doing to block the Underachiever from hearing the voice of spirit which is rooted in their Divinity. An inability to recognize the Love, Life, and Energy—God Is, within their being, due to the great distance being created by their ego energy. When the Underachiever is able to “hear” the mistruths contained within ego’s voice and the truths in spirit’s voice, the door to transformation can open, and the days of living in the role of Underachiever can be ended.
